Jiwarli Stories and Texts

You can read and listen to three stories told by Jack Butler in which he recounts some of the traditional mythology of the Jiwarli people, and an entertaining story in which Jack reminisces about an event that occurred in his youth. There is also an ethnographic text.

As you read the English translation of the Jiwarli texts, you will encounter some words in parentheses. This means that the word in question is not actually present in the Jiwarli version, but is simply understood from the context. A word for word translation of the Jiwarli text is available in the glosses.

You may also notice that the Jiwarli texts are not word for word identical to the sound files, as Jack Butler, after recording the stories, made his own corrections in the texts.
