COMPARATIVE LINGUISTICS

The STAR4WIN system includes a number of programs designed specially for comparative linguists. You may:

• Enter standard 100-word lists of related languages and evaluate their relationships by means of an improved glottochronological formula
• Enter etymostatistical lists (lists of roots of a certain language taken from a text, with etymological parallels from a related language / languages) and evaluate the relationship of languages according to the etymostatistical method
• Build genealogical trees of linguistic families

If you wish, you may automate the process: the system may itself try to establish phonetic correspondences in wordlists, identify related words and build a provisional genealogical tree of a given linguistic family.
