BROWSE

In the BROWSE mode you can edit your database file as an electronic table, or a spreadsheet. On the screen you will see rows and columns, through which you can browse using cursor keys.

To edit any field you must place the cursor or mouse on its cell and press Enter or click the mouse. After that the whole contents of this field will be highlighted and accessible to editing; you will be also able to press Ctrl T and edit the field in the fullscreen mode.

Column header delimiters may be dragged by the mouse, so you may vary the length of the portions of fields displayed on the screen.

You may also freeze the contents of any field on the screen by pressing Ctrl R or choosing Freeze field from the Field menu. All other fields in that case will be moved either by the scrollbar or by control keys, but the frozen fields will always stay on the screen. To switch between the frozen and unfrozen area on the screen use the mouse or Shift + arrow keys.

Note that some keyboard combinations have special functions:

Ctrl + and Ctrl - resize the boundaries of all fields displayed in the window.
Ctrl <- and Ctrl -> move fields to the left or to the right. This move is virtual, i. e., the actual position of fields in the database is unchanged.
Ctrl Up and Ctrl Down move records upwards or downwards. This move is permanent, i. e. the physical position of records in the database is changed.
Ctrl Home and Ctrl End move the field pointer to the first or last field respectively.
Ctrl PgUp and Ctrl PgDn move the record pointer to the first or last record respectively.
Shift Del will cut the current record and move its content to the clipboard.
Shift Ins will insert a new record and fill it with the value stored in the clipboard.
F5 will select records: press F5 on the starting record and F5 again on the last record of the selection. To unselect, press F5 again. The selected records may be then sorted (Alt F5) or removed permanently (Ctrl F8).

If you click the left mouse button on the field header, a standard index (i.e. sorted order) for that field is generated automatically. Another mouse click will remove the index.
If you click the right mouse button on the field header, you will be given an index menu and will be able to set a standard index, update it or remove it. The menu also allows to set this index as default, in which case the file will be always opened with this index order.
