To edit text files you may use the Star4Win text editor. Choose the Edit text file option from the File menu and specify a file name.
The Star4Win text editor can edit text files in three formats:
Raw text format
This is the default option. Any file you edit in this format will appear on the screen just as it looks in DOS, with paragraphs corresponding to lines in a standard ASCII text file. StarLing text files are supposed to look on the screen basically in the same way as they look in StarLing graphic mode.
The raw text file can be saved in text format (either raw or formatted) or as an RTF (rich text format) file.
Formatted text
If you choose formatted text, Star4Win will attempt
to remove line breaks in the text file while preserving paragraph
indents.
Note that the appearance of a text file in such case may be damaged, so
be careful while choosing this option. If your file contains tables or
outdents, make sure that they are marked as such in StarLing (tables
should
be tabbed using the tabulation mark (Chr(20)), and outdents should be
marked in the beginning by Chr(18), and in the end - by
Chr(19)).
If the appearance of your text is damaged you should better try to open it in raw text format. You can then format the paragraphs and tables manually.
The formatted text may be saved as such or in RTF (rich text format) file.
RTF format
The Star4Win text editor, like all other editing routines in StarLing, operates in the so called Rich Text Format (RTF). All RTF files are editable and can be saved as such. This allows, e.g., to view and edit text files produced by Microsoft Word or other word processors. All Star4Win files can also be saved in HTML format.
When you save an RTF file in text format, however, be prepared that much of the formatting and font information may be lost. Proper conversion of RTF to StarLing text format is only guaranteed for files that use fonts registered in the Star4Win configuration file, config.str, and do not contain embedded pictures, diagrams and other graphic objects.
While editing text files you can modify page setup options (indents and page numbering): these changes, however, are only valid for printing and will not be visible on the screen. If you wish to find out the number of pages in your document, use the Paginate option of the File menu.
