Being a Windows program, Star4Win has all Windows WYSIWYG capabilities. StarLing files are by default displayed and edited in the way they should look both on the screen and on printed output. However, the text mode of StarLing is not completely forgotten: you may press Alt F9 or click the Text/Graphic icon on the toolbar to switch from "graphic" mode to "text" mode and vice versa.
In text mode only one font is used in StarWin, and the screen appearance matches the screen appearance in StarLing in text mode: all control codes are displayed as symbols and double byte codes are displayed as a sequence of two bytes. In this way you may control the "inner" representation of Star4Win texts and databases and see exactly the bytes that constitute the contents of your files. In database files this option is useful for many replace and locate operations.
In graphic (default) mode Star4Win uses the fonts specified in config.str.
The default font set used now is:
Times New Roman Star as the main font in graphic mode
(timestar.ttf file);
Lucida Console Star as the only font in text mode
(luconstr.ttf file);
Greek Mousa Star as the Greek font
Persian Naskh Star as the Arabic/Persian font.
For CJK users three default fonts are installed:
UWCXMF (Big5) containing nonsimplified Chinese characters;
UWPSTJ (GB) containing simplified Chinese characters;
UWJMG3 (SJIS) containing Japanese characters;
To install the CJK component you have to run the installation file starcjk.exe.
