COUNT

This ASSIST option is used to count the number of records in your database file which meet a specified condition. This is where the dBASE expressions come in handy.

For example, you have a standard wordlist file with a field WORD containing Swadesh's 100 word list (plus 10 supplementary words) and you want to count how many of them contain the letter 's'.

  1. First open your file.
  2. Next choose the COUNT option. You will be prompted: Condition to count for:...
  3. Enter your expression (in this case it will be: 's' $ word) and you will get the answer: 25 records.
